Troubleshooting

Can’t join your Minecraft server? Start here.

A calm troubleshooting checklist for server status, Java versions, whitelist errors, unknown hosts and connection timeouts.

A glowing portal in a Minecraft world

A failed connection does not automatically mean your world is broken. Most first-session problems can be narrowed down by checking the server state, the client edition and version, the address, and the player list—in that order. Work through one change at a time so you know which check actually helped.

Start with the dashboard

Confirm that the owner has started the server and that the dashboard says it is running. A saved address can exist while its server is stopped. Runtime reaching zero stops the server; adding a whitelist entry or changing the client will not restart it. Check the balance before trying again.

If the dashboard reports that hosting capacity is full, wait for a free slot and retry the start action. Resetting the world or changing journeys is not a connection repair and can erase what you built. During startup, allow time for the world to prepare rather than repeatedly pressing Start.

Confirm Java Edition and the version

The current service accepts Minecraft Java Edition. Minecraft on phones, consoles and Bedrock clients cannot join these Java servers. The MineBanish Android app is a management app, not a bridge between game editions.

Use the Minecraft version indicated by your server. An outdated-client or incompatible-version message is a reason to check that version, not the router. Modded client features and custom Beta server features may differ; first reproduce the problem with the expected client setup before attributing it to your world.

Copy the full address

Copy the address shown in the dashboard, such as team-cave.minebanish.com. Do not add https://, /dashboard or a web-page path. Minecraft’s Server Address field takes the game address, not the URL used to manage the account.

If the owner recently renamed the server, update the saved entry in everybody’s multiplayer list. The old address stops being the address for that server. Look for extra spaces and punctuation when an address was pasted from a chat message.

Match the error to the next check

What Minecraft reports Check first
Not whitelisted Exact player name and saved player settings
Incompatible version or outdated client The client version indicated by the server
Unknown host Address spelling and DNS resolution
Connection refused Whether the server is actually running
Connection timed out Server state, network reachability and possible service interruption

These are starting points, not perfect diagnoses. For example, a timeout can have several causes. Keep the full error text rather than paraphrasing all failures as “it does not work.” If only one friend cannot join, compare that friend’s name, version and network with a player who can.

For an unknown host, test DNS

DNS turns the server name into network information. You can check whether your computer resolves the name without changing your world. On systems with nslookup, use the command below, replacing the example address with your own.

DNS
nslookup team-cave.minebanish.com

Windows PowerShell also provides:

DNS
Resolve-DnsName team-cave.minebanish.com

A DNS answer does not prove that the Minecraft server is running. It only helps distinguish a name-resolution problem from a later connection problem. If the name does not resolve, recheck the address and try a different network or resolver you trust. There is no reason to open home-router ports just to join a server hosted by MineBanish.

Check the whitelist without sharing the hosting login

Ask the owner to compare your Minecraft Java name with the saved player list. Your MineBanish display name, email and console gamertag are not substitutes. The owner should save player changes while the server is stopped, then start it again.

You do not need the owner’s account password to join. An operator permission is also not required for ordinary play. If access is refused after the name is confirmed, review the authentication choice with the owner rather than handing out OP as a workaround.

Send a useful report if the checks do not explain it

Use the contact page and include the full server address, Minecraft edition and version, exact error, time and time zone, dashboard status, and which checks you completed. Mention whether every player is affected or only one. A screenshot of the error helps; passwords and session tokens do not.

Avoid resetting or deleting the server while investigating. If another player can still connect, ask the owner to stop and download the world before any destructive experiment. A clear report and a preserved world are a better starting point than several unrelated settings changes.

Put it into practice.
